Trekkies Bash New Star Trek Film As ‘Fun, Watchable’
Some long time Star Trek fans I’ve been talking to have mentioned the fact that the new JJ Abrams movie seems to have little resemblance to the TV series’ or the feature films we’ve come to know and love.

I agree.

The new Star Trek movie isn’t here to replace what’s come before it, but rather find a new audience by bringing the franchise someplace new. I’m all for the quasi-scientific debates and endless ensigns dying at the hand of their exploding consoles, but in order for Star Trek films to be a viable source of revenue they have to attract fans in greater numbers than films like 2002’s Star Trek: Nemesis were able to.

I’m not saying this new film is exactly what the universe needs, or that traditional trek style films have seen their final days, but I am saying that I’m excited for another Star Trek movie, the effects look fantastic, and I bet this movie allows for a resurgence of Star Trek in a way I thought not possible.
