On Tuesday, March 24, American Canyon Police Department Officers responded to a report that approximately 40 mailboxes had been broken into at 260 American Canyon Road. Through a follow-up investigation, officers identified a suspect vehicle and obtained descriptions of the individuals involved.

On Monday, March 30, just before 7 a.m., officers located the vehicle, parked in the 2900 block of Broadway. Officers observed two adults stealing mail from boxes.

Both suspects were detained as the theft was occurring. During the investigation, officers located approximately 50 pieces of stolen mail belonging to different victims inside the vehicle.

Officers also discovered a 9-month-old infant in the back seat, not properly secured in a car seat. Suspected methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia were found inside the vehicle near the infant.

The two adults were arrested and booked into the Napa County Department of Corrections on charges including child abuse, possession of a controlled substance, conspiracy and offenses related to mail theft.

The infant was taken into protective custody by Child Protective Services.
