Bring your questions

U.S. Representative Mike Thompson’s first town hall of 2026 will be held in American Canyon on Monday, Jan. 5, at 5:30 p.m., at the Boys and Girls Clubhouse at 60 Benton Way. This is a general town hall, so residents are encouraged to RSVP and bring any questions, comments or concerns they may have.

“You can ask anything,” said Thompson, D-St. Helena, in a phone call on Tuesday. “I go into it wanting to hear what constituents are concerned about.”

Frustrations are likely to sound familiar. Across all 26 town halls Thompson held in 2025, voters’ number top issues were with the Trump administration and day-to-day costs, according to the congressman.

Grocery prices have increased by 30% since 2020 along with rising housing and utility bills. Lately, we’ve seen hundreds of layoffs in Solano and Napa counties thanks to closures including Ikea’s Fulfillment Center in American Canyon and the Anheuser-Busch brewery in Fairfield. In Napa County, where lagging wine sales have led to layoffs, unemployment is at 4.6%.

“That’s a number one issue with everybody — affordability,” said Thompson, citing a bill he introduced on Dec. 18 called the American Affordability Act. The act, he said, “deals with healthcare costs, utility costs, student loans and childcare.”

The bill also aims to lower the expenses of education, transportation and domestic energy production, mostly through tax credits.

At Monday’s event, a staffer will have a microphone to present to each questioner. There will also be cards available for written comments so a staffer can read them out loud on your behalf. To submit questions prior to the event, email Congressman Thompson using this form. Click here to RSVP.
