Building permits, major projects discussed by American Canyon City Council

Most building permits issued in American Canyon over the last fiscal year were for home improvements rather than for commercial projects, according to the city.
Between July 1, 2024, and June 30, 560 building permits were completed in American Canyon, according to the city. Of those, 66 percent were permits for home improvements, Brent Cooper, American Canyon’s head planner, told the American Canyon City Council on Tuesday.
“We are a much more residential community than commercial,” Cooper said as he gave an update on the building department over the past year.
Major projects completed over the past year included apartments at Lemos Pointe and Napa Cove; a 217,000 square-foot distribution center on Commerce Court; and PG&E regional service center on Boone Drive in American Canyon.
The city also reported that 130 building permits were in review as more development is under way.
Pending projects includes a solar farm, an ecological center, hotels, apartments overlooking Napa Junction and houses at Watson Ranch, the development under construction east of Broadway/Highway 29. The plans for Watson Ranch, approved in November 2018, include 1,250 residential units.
Here are some of these projects:
Napa River Ecology Center, 205 Wetlands Edge Road: A permit is under review. The project, also known as the Eco Center, is planned at the former American Canyon Corporation Yard on Wetlands Edge Road. The 2.5-acre property include a 5,000-square-foot building that dates from 1955. The American Canyon Community and Parks Foundation and the city have collaborated to fund the project.
Napa Junction Solar, 5381 Broadway/Highway 29: Grading for the solar farm is under way; permits are under review. The solar farm will also serve as a boat storage facility.
