American Canyon firefighters on Tuesday afternoon rushed to the 2400 block of Green Island Road to put out a grass fire under windy conditions.

About a quarter of an acre of grass burned along with other vegetation, said Laura Provencher, spokeswoman for the American Canyon Fire Protection District. The fire, which was reported at 5:41 p.m., was contained quickly, she said. No structures was damaged.

“We don’t know the origin of the fire,” Provencher said on Wednesday.

Napa County, Cal Fire and the city of Vallejo fire engines also responded to the incident.

A civilian was treated and released at the scene for smoke inhalation, Provencher said. She noted it is protocol to have an ambulance respond and be on standby in case a firefighter or a civilian is injured.

“The city of Napa Fire Department responded to provide station coverage should there be additional emergencies that occurred within the district,” Provencher said. “And that’s protocol. We do that for them, they do that for us.”

Neighbors within a short walking distance includes an auto repair and Mecca Halal, a poultry and livestock business.
