The American Canyon Wolves football hits the ground running

The American Canyon High School Wolves Football Program is off to a howling start, with the freshman, junior varsity, and varsity levels combining for a 10-2 record to begin the season. Even with a new varsity head coach, the same State-winning standard is being held program-wide.
The freshman squad is coming off a big time 31-to-24 win on the road against the Marin Catholic Wildcats. Under the new leadership of Nathan Sundita, the Freshman Wolves have started 4-0, averaging 32.25 points per game while giving up just 15.25 points per game.
The JV and Varsity Squads are each off to a 3-1 start. Fresh off their bye week, the Wolves are preparing for their first week of league play, going on the road to take on the Tamalpais High School Red Tailed Hawks. The Varsity Wolves run game has been on point, averaging 289.5 rushing yards per game and 7.4 yards per carry on the way to scoring 16 rushing touchdowns. On the defensive side, the Wolves have only given up an average 14.25 points per game and fewer than 200 offensive yards per game.
The Red Tailed Hawks won’t be an easy target however, coming off of a lopsided 54-to-6 victory over the Justin-Siena Braves. They will enter this week’s game 1-0 in league play. The team is also battle-tested, with three of the four teams they played during the preseason being ranked higher in California according to MaxPreps.
First year Wolves Varsity Head Coach Marcellus Holmes brings 31 years of coaching experience to the program and looks to keep the Wolves momentum rolling into the first league game. Asked about how he felt coming into this week, he said, “[We’re] looking forward to getting back to it after our bye week, starting off with the Tamalpais Red Tailed Hawks. We know it’s going to be a competitive game, just trying to take it one game at a time, going into league. [We’re] looking to capture the league championship, of course, and make it to the playoffs. This should be a great test for both programs. GO WOLVES!!!”
The Freshman Wolves take on the Vintage Crushers at home in Wolf Den Stadium on Thursday, Oct. 2. Kickoff begins at 6 p.m. The Junior Varsity and Varsity Wolves travel to the Tamalpais High School Red Tailed Hawks Saturday, October 4th. Junior Varsity kickoff begins at 11 a.m., and Varsity kickoff is at 2 p.m.
