Wolves Football gets things done, on the field and in the classroom

The American Canyon High School Wolves have a solid Week 6 in the season, with all three levels posting double-digit victories and outscoring their opponents by a combined 89 points.
Even more impressive, the program has taken care of business in the classroom, with the latest grading period showing a 3.0, 3.1, and 3.4 team GPA for the Freshman, Junior Varsity, and Varsity Wolves, respectively. This is all under the leadership of Marcellus Holmes (Varsity), Brandon “KB” Henry Sr. (Junior Varsity), and Nathan Sundita (Freshman), all first-year head coaches in their respective positions.
The Freshman Wolves defeated Vintage at home in convincing fashion, with strong offensive line play opening holes for Bishop Newell and Justin Goss, who combined for 400 rushing yards and five touchdowns.
Freshman Head Coach Nathan Sundita felt the defense played “lights out” in both home games they’ve had this season, only allowing two total touchdowns so far. He also stated, “The offense was rolling…all around it was a solid game from our special teams, kicking 6 of 6 on PATs. Our defense only giving up 7 points. Out of two games at home, we only gave up two touchdowns and put up 10 touchdowns for our home stands.”
Next up for the Freshman Wolves is a home game in Wolf Den Stadium against the San Marin Mustangs, with both squads entering the game undefeated at 5-0. Coach Nathan said, “I believe we have the guys to put points up against good opponents. If the defense plays like they have been playing, we will be in a great position to win.” Kickoff begins at 6 p.m., on Thursday, Oct. 9.
The Junior Varsity Squad was no less convincing, with Justin “Juice” Ojascastro taking over the game and rushing for multiple touchdowns. The team has been dominant on the ground all year, averaging 300 yards a game.
JV Head Coach Brandon “KB” Henry Sr. had this to say about the game: “I’m very proud of how our young men performed and stepped up to the challenge against Tamalpais High School…They’ve been working extremely hard all season, and to see the development and improvement every week has been very impressive. We had a solid run game plan that I think we executed well. Our offensive line was outstanding, along with another 100-yard rushing game from our backfield. Defensively, we knew Tam would be aggressive in the air, so I think we did a great job applying pressure to the QB, secondary was physical, linebackers filling holes, overall, a lights-out performance from our defense.”

Junior Varsity is set to take on the Justin Sienna Braves this coming Friday, Oct. 10, in Wolf Den Stadium, with kickoff beginning at 4:30 p.m. Coach “KB” Henry Sr. feels ready for the challenge, stating, “Justin is a very disciplined football team with good size up front on both sides of the ball, so we will have to match the discipline and physicality up front, but I believe in our guys and have seen the work they’ve put in, so I’m excited to see the outcome this Friday night!”
The Varsity Wolves Football team got it done on the road in their first league matchup at Tamalpais High School, besting the opponent 34-13. The rushing game was unstoppable, recording 317 rushing yards and three more rushing touchdowns.
Quarterback Kameron Hunter played a key role in executing the Wolves’ rushing and passing attack, accounting for 178 of the team’s 388 yards from scrimmage and three total touchdowns.
The Wolves’ defensive play was just as dominant, allowing just over 200 yards of offense and recording three interceptions, including a 35-yard interception return for a touchdown by Cole Gholar.
Head Coach Marcellus Holmes showed pride in the boys for their win, but still isn’t satisfied, stating, “We came and got the victory, but we still gotta clean up our mistakes. It was a good victory, but we won’t get to our destination with so many self-inflicted penalties during the game. We gotta change what we’re doing with our discipline. To be better, we have to do better.”
With Justin Sienna forfeiting Friday night’s game, the Varsity Wolves move to 2-0 in the league. While there remains an open spot to play Friday night, Coach Marcellus Holmes said, “We’re looking for an opponent to play, but if nobody fills the game, we’ll keep preparing for our next opponent, which would be Petaluma.”
The next currently scheduled game for the Varsity Wolves at the time of writing is Friday, Oct. 17, which will also be Senior Night. Kickoff begins at 7:30 p.m., with the Senior Night ceremony taking place before the game at 6:30 p.m.
